The developer of RealTime Interactive Security Status and RISS Privileged Administrator is Edward Olson. Edward is an Aerospace Engineer and Infantry Veteran, and an FAA Certified UAS (drone) Pilot.
The development of RISS grew from witnessing the failures of emergency responses to deadly and potentially deadly incidences. Children calling in to request help from and to update first responders should not happen. Further, a reasonable response protocol for the different incidences we should expect to encounter are absent (barring “run, hide, fight”, which is not applicable in cases).
When guns showed up at my son’s High School in 2 of 3 days, and I watched the response, it drove me to action. If the school staff just had the ability to generate a report in realtime, report of a gun, and who and then, where is he? They did not and and unarmed teachers interacted with armed students instead of first responders. In these cases the situation was resolved peacefully, however, we were lucky. A child with a gun is untrained and the degree of fight and flight are extreme. As a result, this situation is unpredictable and many could have gotten hurt by trying to interact with an armed student who is surrounded by unarmed and unwarned students and teachers. Only a trained first responder should interact with the subject in such an incident. Only, the first responders did not know where to go, so they were the second on the scene. RealTime Interactive Security Status may offer the capabilities to correct these shortfalls and create a safer environment for everyone.
The RealTime Interactive Security Status App is Designed to Turn Confusion and Inaction into KNOWLEDGE, DIRECTION and ACTION. It is my hope that practice with and use of this App will result in the necessary communication capabilities to safely resolve Incidences that occur in schools and within the community.
